Breeder Responsibilities

As a member of the Ankole Society of South Africa, there are several responsibilities that a Breeder needs to meet to maintain their stud.  A full list of these responsibilities can be accessed here.  These are summarized as follows:

  • Registering your stud. Contact our Breed Director to get assistance with this or click through to “become a member”
  • Maintaining your herd book by registering all calves within 30 days of their birth. Do this through competing and submitting the Notification of Births Registration Form and submitting it to the Breed Director
  • Marking your animals either by tattooing or by branding before it is 2 years old.
  • Submitting DNA for each animal before it is 9 months old. All DNA samples are done by Unistel.  Click here to get the relevant forms.
  • Having your animals inspected before they are 3 years old. You can get a list of Inspectors from the Breed Director
  • Providing details of semen collected and stored for any bull that you sell.
  • Transferring animals that are sold within 30 days of the sale. The Breed Director can assist you with this
